The 2026 Montana Registered Agent Price Schedule
Pay one annual fee — $99 — for registered agent representation in Montana. The address goes on your filings, legal mail gets scanned same-day, and we remind you before state deadlines.
This schedule was compiled by Montana Registered Agent.co. We rank ourselves first on it, and we earn $99 a year whenever a reader accepts that ranking. Both facts belong ahead of the data, so they lead. The data itself is not editorial: every competitor rate below is the price that vendor advertised during our July 2026 verification pass, reproduced without adjustment. One entry undercuts ours. It stays in the schedule untouched.

Row One: Our Own Entry, Examined
What the $99 covers, in concrete terms:
- Service of process scanned and delivered electronically the same business day it reaches our office
- The identical $99 on every renewal invoice. No introductory rate, no scheduled increase
- A single-item checkout. No add-on screens, no bundle tiers
- A Montana street address on your public filings in place of your own, satisfying the statute's demand for an actual street address or rural route box number in the state
- Commercial registered agent status: we appear on the registry the Secretary of State maintains for professional agents
- Non-legal mail scanning at $15 per item, flat. Disclosed here, not discovered on an invoice
One title we do not hold: lowest sticker in the schedule. Going strictly by what appears in print, the cheapest registered agent service in Montana is BetterLegal at $90 per year, three rows down. Our position is narrower and, we would argue, stronger: among the lowest flat annual rates in the state, with same-day scanning inside the price and a renewal that matches year one exactly.
Rows Two Through Nine

Order Here2. Northwest Registered Agent
Second place, earned on transparency. The full price structure sits in public view: the first year costs nothing when attached to a formation order, renewal runs $125 a year up to four states, and the rate becomes $100 per state from the fifth on. Phone support is staffed by humans. Privacy practices are solid and long-standing. The gap that settles the ranking: $125 against $99, recurring annually, with no mechanism that ever narrows it.
3. BetterLegal
The schedule's price floor. $90 per year, published in plain text, confirmed in our July 2026 pass. The unresolved item is the first year, which our verification could not establish from public materials. A rate verified at renewal but not at signup carries a caveat, and this is it. Buyers deciding on price alone should study BetterLegal's checkout terms closely before committing.
4. Rocket Lawyer
$125 per year, identical at every membership tier, no expiring introductory rate. Clean pricing, and we note it approvingly. The structural issue: agent service arrives inside a broader legal membership carrying document templates and attorney consultations. Subscribers who use the platform extract value from the bundle. A business that only needs a Montana agent is financing features it never touches.
5. ZenBusiness
The category's best software, credited without hesitation. The pricing is staged: $99 plus state fees for a standalone first year, $199 per year thereafter. Evaluate at $199. That is the recurring number, and the recurring number is the real price of the service. The opening figure exists to walk you toward it.
6. Bizee (formerly Incfile)
Formerly Incfile. Formation packages arrive with a stretch of included agent coverage, three months at the low tiers up to twelve at the top. Genuine value for someone forming an LLC regardless. The obligation transfers to you at expiration: standalone billing begins at $149 per year the month the free window closes, and monitoring that date is nobody's job but yours.
7. LegalZoom
$249 per year, auto-renewing, no first-year reduction found in our check. Highest fixed rate in the schedule. Montana's requirements do not scale with price: a street address in the state, availability during business hours, delivery of what arrives. Every row in this schedule performs that same statutory function. LegalZoom charges the most for it and supplies the most recognizable name in return. Weigh accordingly.
8. Swyft Filings
The billing runs $149 per quarter, and four quarters make roughly $596, the schedule's highest total. No first-year discount surfaced in our verification. The interval matters: a quarterly figure keeps the yearly cost out of sight while you shop. The schedule above restores it.
9. Inc Authority
First year: included at $0. Renewal: absent from print. Our July 2026 verification worked through the homepage, FAQ, and premium package material without locating a renewal figure, which typically means the number surfaces at checkout or during a sales call. Last place follows from policy, not spite. A schedule cannot rank a price that never appears in print, and a buyer should not accept one.
The Fee Schedule Treats Switching as Maintenance
Montana's official fee schedule lists the Statement of Change, the filing that updates your registered office, your agent, or both, with two words in the fee column: NO FEE. The filing runs under Mont. Code Ann. § 35-7-108 and goes to the Business Services Division. There is no paper version and no form number; the state retired those.
The design tells you something. Montana processes an agent change the way it processes an address correction: routine maintenance on the record, not a transaction to be priced. No tollbooth stands between you and a better agent. File the change on any business day, or fold it into the annual report between January 1 and April 15 and skip the separate filing altogether. Procedure is on our change of agent page.
Annual Report Arithmetic: $0, Then $35, Then Dissolution
The Montana annual report runs on a fixed calendar. Window: January 1 through April 15. First report: the year after organization. The statutory fee is $20. For 2024 through 2027 the Secretary of State has waived that fee on every on-time filing, which makes an April 15 report currently a $0 event. The waiver carries an end date; after 2027, the $20 returns unless the state extends it.
Miss April 15 and the same filing costs $35 total, the standard fee plus a $15 late charge. Continue missing it and the state escalates past money: roughly 140 days after the deadline, a warning of pending administrative dissolution goes out by mail, and dissolution follows by about December 1 under Mont. Code Ann. § 35-8-208(3).
That asymmetry is the strongest argument on this page for a competent agent. On time is free. Late is $35. Unread mail is a dissolved company. Montana also carries an outsized population of nonresident-owned LLCs, many formed for the state's well-known vehicle-titling niche, and a nonresident owner has no Montana mailbox other than the agent's office. Deadline reminders are included in our $99. Filing details sit on our annual report guide.
One Portal, No Forms, $35 to Form
Ready when you are. Ordering takes about five minutes.
Order HereSince 2017, Montana has accepted business filings only through the Secretary of State's Business Filing Portal at biz.sosmt.gov, accessed with an ePass Montana account. Paper is not an option, and numbered forms do not exist, so any vendor instruction citing a Montana form number describes a filing system the state shut down years ago.
Formation pricing follows the same lean pattern: Articles of Organization cost $35, among the lowest formation fees of any state, plus $50 for each named series member in a series LLC. Cheap entry, a free agent change, and a free on-time annual report through 2027. What Montana leaves you to buy is judgment: an agent who treats incoming mail as the job, not a chore.
Reading the Schedule
Nine rows, one statutory job. The top of the market charges $249 for brand recognition. The floor charges $90 with an unverified first year. The outlier bills quarterly and totals $596. We occupy the position we would want as buyers: $99 every year without movement, same-day scanning of anything served, a Montana address between your name and the public record, and April 15 tracked as part of the fee. If the schedule reads the same way to you, enrollment takes minutes.
